Meditating Your Way to Healthier Mind and Body: A Practical Guide

It is possible to meditate without any rituals. The meditative mind can accept and absorb any experience no matter how much thought the observer puts into it. Mindfulness, however, requires an awareness of the true self and complete surrender of conscious control. Acceptance means nothing less than an all-embracing surrender of the conscious mind to the true self.

The meditative mind does not discriminate but rather allows all things to be seen as they are and not by our previous thought patterns or expectation. When the mind accepts and embraces its own nature, it can then begin to let go of its attachment to attachments and our habitual habits.

To begin with, a meditation technique is used that gives the mind some instruction on how to work with itself. An in-breath and out-breath are given, followed by counting, and the conscious mind then stops with the intention of breathing deeply through the nose. Another repetition of the in-breath, followed by a count of one to ten, are given. This is repeated again, then the unconscious mind is brought back to the beginning.

It is suggested to bring back to mind the purpose of the meditation by having the conscious mind to continue with a deep breath, while the unconscious mind is allowed to follow it. It is said that the meditative mind allows itself to slip into the state of awareness without consciously wishing to enter into it.

Subjects may include sensory organs, including the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and lips. The meditative eye works to watch the breath for any change, as a result, the mind observes the true self, or God, in all things. All objects of the senses are seen as they really are and not by their previous pattern of perception. This leads to the meditative mind seeing the undistorted, blissful, and pure perfection of the Creator.

The calm and peaceful mind is composed of beautiful blissful feelings and images. The meditative feeling brings about a formless state of consciousness where the mind sees itself as a leaf within a tree, or a stream flowing by. The mind feels calm and peaceful, and at peace with itself and all things.

Different methods of meditation can be used depending on the person’s belief. Some people may use mediation techniques while others may take a guide who teaches them the art of meditation.

The purpose of meditation is to let go of any accumulated delusions and let go of any grudges so that one can receive and enjoy the benefits of inner peace. Meditation brings about a state of consciousness in which a person finds it easy to release the cobwebs from the mind and allow them to fall away.
